Overall a fun receiver and great scanner.ġ. Used prices seem to be in the 75 to 125 dollar range. I often listen to the 3.880 and 3.885MHz AM frequencies with it.

If you like to listen to your local repeaters plus catch up on the world news on shortwave then this little receiver won't let you down. If you are looking for a black box receiver that just does HF then the Ten Tec RX320 is your best bet. The attenuation button works great when needed but I like using a VHF antenna for both scanning and shortwave listening. Receiver overloads easy with too much antenna on the lower frequencies. Sensitivity is good below 30MHz using a 2M/440 mobile antenna, better using the supplied wire antenna. I got a new file from the latest Icom PCR1000 control software.

I like the original Icom control best but if you are running Windows 2000 or above you will need to replace the RxBase.dll file with a newer one.

It doesn't do SSB like its big brother, the PCR1000, but has many nice features like tone squelch, bandscope and many very good software control programs available for this receiver. It really shines in the higher frequency spectrum but its shortwave capabilities are surprisingly good. The Icom PCR100 seems to be a well rounded receiver that covers VLF, HF, VHF and UHF frequencies.
